Digital Services provider Highway Resource Solutions (HRS) Ltd is celebrating 10 years in business during which time it has improved the safety of road workers and road users by developing innovative digital technology.
The Leicestershire based company was set up in 2011 following the tragic death of a road worker who was killed by an errant vehicle. Driven by innovation and entrepreneurship, Company Directors Roger Poeth (MD) and James Jarrett (Technical Director) strongly believed technology could, and should be used, to help protect road workers and road users. They have gone on to dedicate their time and efforts to deliver work zone safety by pushing boundaries, challenging traditional thinking, and integrating technology and digital innovation into temporary traffic management. This led to the birth of the Intellicone Incursion Prevention & Warning System which has been widely used and applauded by the industry over the past 10 years.

Today, HRS offers a range of digital services to the highways, street works, rail and utility sectors that focus on making existing assets smart to improve safety, customer service and efficiency.
“The HRS ethos is very much focused on industry collaboration and ensuring we develop products and services that the industry wants and needs,” adds Roger. “We speak to our customers and it is from these conversations that our forward thinking, innovative design team can explore and develop new concepts, services and devices.”
Whilst the 10 Year Anniversary is a proud milestone for HRS, securing a second Highways Product of the Year Award makes 2021 even more celebratory. Having won the award back at the beginnings of HRS for their Intellicone System, the digital services company were recently awarded a second for their Dynamic Speed Sign, a revolutionary product which allows remote changing of speed limits during roadworks. This means that a 60mph can be in place when workers are not on site, 50mph during peak site activity or 40mph whilst dealing with an incident.
The future is looking very bright for HRS who are looking forward to the next 10 years.
“We have doubled our workforce and are currently building new premises which will help house our 50-strong workforce and create a state-of-the-art facility for our engineering, office, production and warehouse teams,” adds Roger. “The past 10 years have been challenging, exciting and humbling and we are looking forward to the future. We believe that every road worker should be safe at work and every road user should be safe whilst travelling through roadworks. It is our mission to continue to bring digital innovation to traffic management to ensure that they are.”
